Job description

How can we create attractive homes which satisfy societal and individual needs without endangering basic sustainable conditions for our own existence and those of future generations?

Future homes need to be designed with respect to vital systems and planned for the consequences of global climate change. What are the possibilities for resilience and self production? How are the terms ’living’, ‘dwelling’ and ’home’ defined among different people? How do we want to live in the future? How can we create added values through dwellings? Finally, what possibilities are created by new knowledge and technology?

This doctoral position will give you the possibility to explore in-depth the future prospects for homes from a human perspective The overall aim is to produce basic knowledge about living and dwelling within the frames for climate change and sustainable development. As a successful candidate you will work within the transdisciplinary research programme ’Homes for Tomorrow’ which gathers a large and broad research competence in the fields of water management, building physics, acoustics and building design, as well as an arena of industrial and societal partners and stakeholders. You will be able to draw upon experiences from earlier research on living and dwelling in extreme environments on earth and in space through NASA’s space research.

The position is limited to maximum 5 years, which corresponds to four years of full-time research studies together with teaching in the undergraduate or Masters curricula at Chalmers. The aim is that you as an individual will evolve to an independent researcher for a continued career in academia, industry or other parts of society. As a doctoral student you will be part of an international research environment where you will further develop your competences within a field and where you write you thesis. The work will include many discussions, individual work and some travels.

Required qualifications

We welcome applicants who are qualified for doctoral studies preferably with a degree in architecture, architecture and technology or comparative design studies. Applicants with practical experience of architectural design are encouraged to apply. You are expected to work independently, to develop your own ideas, and to be skilled in communicating your scientific results, both orally, visually and written in English. You will work in a transdisciplinary environment and is expected to be open for collaboration across disciplinary borders.

Hasselt University PhD Studentship in Neurobiology 2011

Research at the Biomedical Research Institute (BIOMED, Hasselt University) focuses on disease and repair mechanisms in neurological diseases and the development of new therapeutics for these disorders. In this project, we will characterize neural cell phenotypes in the acute-chronic switch of animal models of neurological disorders, such as multiple sclerosis, traumatic brain injury and temporal lobe epilepsy. Thereby, we intend: i) to find out common and disease-specific markers of neural cell phenotypes that can help differentiating between the different stages of the brain diseases, ii) to better understand the role of these different phenotypes in the pathophysiology of these affections. This project may therefore lead to more effective therapies for different brain disorders. The project includes a wide variety of neurobiological and immunological techniques such as cell and brain slice cultures, immunohistochemistry, molecular biology, cell imaging and cell electrophysiology.

Profile

Applicants should have excellent communication skills and sufficient knowledge of Dutch and/or English. The candidate is highly motivated to work in a multidisciplinary team.
Laboratory research experience with experimental animal model systems is a definite plus (e.g. during the Master’s dissertation).

Win €15,000 towards an MBA programme at UCD Michael Smurfit Graduate Business School

IMAGE Magazine, in association with the UCD Smurfit School is offering a €15,000 scholarship to one female candidate wishing to enter either the full- or part-time MBA programme starting in September 2010.

The school offers a choice of three Executive part-time MBA programmes and a one-year Full-time MBA programme.

The scholarship covers 50% of tuition fees and can only be used towards the MBA programme at UCD Smurfit School; it will be awarded to the candidate who best meets the selection criteria and standard MBA programme entry requirements as outlined in the terms and conditions.

Selection will be based on submission of two short essays as follows:

Tell us (in 500 words or less) how you have demonstrated entrepreneurship and leadership in your career
Tell us (in 200 words or less) why you feel you deserve this scholarship

A panel of judges will evaluate essay submissions and entrants will then be invited to complete a full MBA application if they have not already done so.

Eligibility

Setiap awal tahun, pemerintah Federasi Rusia memberikan beasiswa untuk mahasiswa Indonesia belajar di Rusia. Untuk jenjang S1, S2 dan spesialisasi (35 beasiswa); S3 dan post-doktoral (10 beasiswa).

Beasiswa tersedia untuk Ilmu Alam; Ilmu Teknik; Ilmu Sosial; Ilmu Humaniora. Untuk Ilmu Hukum dan Ilmu Politik, masing-masing hanya tersedia 1 kuota, untuk Kedokteran hanya tersedia 3 kuota. Pendaftaran dibuka dari tanggal 23 maret 2011 – 14 April 2011

Persyaratan yang harus dipenuhi pelamar adalah:

* S1 : nilai ijazah rata-rata 8,0 untuk mata pelajaran yang sesuai program studi tujuan, tidak ada angka merah untuk mata pelajaran lain, usia maks. tidak lebih dari 3th setelah tamat SMA, melengkapi berkas-berkas yang diperlukan, berkas lamaran dimasukkan dalam map kuning (dibuat masing-masing rangkap 2).

* Post-doktoral: Lulus doktoral, memiliki pengalaman kerja sesuai spesialisasi, usia maks.45th, membuat referat/ proposal singkat maks.2 halaman tentang tema penelitian ilmiah, sertakan daftar judul publikasi (kalau ada). Menyertakan surat rekomendasi dari 2 profesor. Untuk lulusan Rusia, proposal dibuat dalam Bahasa Indonesia dan Rusia, melengkapi berkas-berkas yang diperlukan, berkas lamaran dimasukkan dalam map hijau (dibuat masing-masing rangkap 2).

Berkas-berkas lamaran yang harus diajukan dan diurutkan sebagai berikut:

* Mengisi lembar aplikasi dalam Bahasa Inggris 2 kali (form terdapat di PIPKR)
* Fotokopi ijazah dan transkrip nilai dilegalisir lembaga pendidikan yang mengeluarkan, dibuat 2 rangkap.
* Terjemahan ijazah dan transkrip nilai dalam Bahasa Inggris dilegalisir lembaga pendidikan, disahkan notaris kemudian di ekivalensikan oleh Departemen Pendidikan Nasional, dibuat 2 rangkap.
* Surat keterangan lulus tes kesehatan serta keterangan bebas HIV/AIDS, dalam Bahasa Inggris, dilegalisir instansi yang mengeluarkan, dibuat 2 rangkap.
* Fotokopi akta kelahiran, 2 lembar.
* Terjemahan akta kelahiran dalam Bahasa Inggris disahkan notaris, 2 lembar.
* 10 lembar pasfoto 4×6 berwarna.
* Fotokopi berwarna dari lembar pertama paspor (dibuat 2 kali) dan data diri lengkap (untuk mengisi visa). Masa berlaku paspor setidaknya terhitung 1,5 tahun sejak tiba di Rusia.
* Membayar biaya pengganti yang dikeluarkan PIPKR untuk mengirim berkas lamaran ke Rusia, biaya telepon dan faksimil ke Rusia sebesar Rp.500.000,-
* Penerjemahan dokumen ke dalam Bahasa Inggris dapat dilakukan oleh lembaga yang menerbitkan dokumen tersebut atau penerjemah tersumpah.

Pelamar beasiswa akan melewati 3 tahap seleksi:

1. seleksi berkas-berkas lamaran;
2. seleksi wawancara;
3. lulus wawancara, berkas dikirim ke dan diseleksi oleh Kementrian Pendidikan Rusia.

Penerima beasiswa akan mendapatkan: biaya pendidikan selama jenjang pendidikannya S1 (5 th), S2-S3-postdoktoral (3 th); uang saku per bulan 1100RUB/ 37,2USD (S1, S2), atau uang saku per bulan 1500RUB/ 50,8USD (S3, postdoktoral). S1 dan S2 akan mengikuti fakultas persiapan 1th untuk belajar Bahasa Rusia dan tiba di Rusia bulan September. S3 dan postdoktoral tiba di Rusia bulan Desember.

Perlengkapan dan biaya yang harus disediakan dan ditanggung sendiri oleh penerima beasiswa adalah:

* Perlengkapan baju, sepatu, keperluan pribadi dan pendukung lain yang memadai untuk iklim Rusia.
* Uang saku untuk pengeluaran pribadi minimal 300USD/ bulan dan polis asuransi kesehatan 250USD/ tahun.
* Biaya penjemputan, transportasi dari airport ke tempat tujuan dan registrasi paspor minimal 250USD (kecuali untuk kota-kota tertentu di selatan dan timur Rusia).
* Tersedia asrama mahasiswa yang ongkos sewanya dibebankan kepada penerima beasiswa (+/- 30USD/bulan).
* Tiket pesawat Jakarta-Moskow (+/- 900USD).

Beasiswa tersedia untuk Ilmu Alam; Ilmu Teknik; Ilmu Sosial; Ilmu Humaniora. Untuk Ilmu Hukum dan Ilmu Politik, masing-masing hanya tersedia 1 kuota, untuk Kedokteran hanya tersedia 3 kuota.

The Saarbrücken Graduate School of Computer Science provides an optimal environment for pursuing doctoral studies in computer science at an internationally competitive level. Leiden University Excellence Scholarship (LExS) Programme 2011/2012 for Masters Degree

For whom?

The Huck Centre Postgraduate Scholarships at Henley University of Reading

LL.M Scholarships 2011 at Transnational Law and Business University, South Korea

TLBU Graduate School of Law in Seoul offers scholarship for students from qualified universities of East Asia and Southeast Asia. The scholarship includes tuition fees, board and lodging and airfares for field studies in China (first year) and Europe (second year). However in principle, students must be able to afford airfare to visit his/her home during recesses, as well as airfare to TLBU for initial arrival.

All applicants should possess high qualified English language skills, additional French is preferred. All universities are eligible to apply, however University of Indonesia, Parahyangan Catholic University and Padjajaran University are preferred.

QUALIFICATION

Qualification for Admission Doctorate / Master Course in Laws:

1. English Proficiency
The applicant should have at least 550 Paper-based TOEFL (PBT), 213 Computer-based TOEFL (CBT), 80 Internet-based TOEFL (IBT), band 6.5 IELTS scores, College English Test (CET) Band 6, or other equivalent tests.

2. Perequisite Legal Education
Applicants for Masters program must have received, or expected to receive by the end of July of 2011, a bachelor`s degree (or equivalent) in law from an approved institution. Applicants for the doctorate program must have received, or expect to receive by the end of July of 2011, a masters degree (or the equivalent) in law from an approved institution. A final transcript confirming your graduation should be submitted as soon as it is available. We reserve the right to review for reconsideration or revoke the offer of admission if you fail to graduate with your class.

3. Application Deadline
The due date for application is on November 30, 2010 (Chinese Applicants) and December 31, 2010 (Non-Chinese Applications). The applicant must submit his/her application (download from the website) along with his/her Letter of Recommendation TOEFL score, IELTS Score, CET-6 or other equivalent test certification. Description of research theme:

We are witnessing the rapid growth of a new generation of participatory and collaborative network technologies that provide individuals with a platform for sophisticated online social interaction. Social networks today have hundreds of millions of users and are transforming our social and professional interactions and to some extent are shaping society itself. Gradually, society is discerning that this development not only brings strong bene?ts to the social and economic fabric, but also introduces new risks related to privacy violations. At this stage, these issues are often perceived as isolated incidents that most organizations do not take accountability for. Yet, the implications of social networking environments for individual users, communities, organizations and society at large will become much more evident and most likely more substantial if necessary precautions are not taken. Especially alarming is the massive responsibility that individuals incur with respect to managing privacy and security risks arising from the information collected and shared about their everyday life on social networking sites. This phenomenon is has been coined as the responsibilisation of individuals.

The main objective of the overall research project is to mitigate the responsibilisation of individuals who use or are a?ected by social networking services by making the underlying social networking infrastructures and the organizations that run them more accountable. In order to achieve this objective ?rst an understanding of the target audience is required as well as forms of responsibilisation. This target audience includes users, communities and organizations in Flanders (Belgium). The plan is to develop solutions that facilitate better decision making with respect to the target groups’ privacy and security concerns, and that mitigate the risks, threats and concerns that currently are manifest in this domain.

The PhD research position at IBBT-SMIT (Vrije Universiteit Brussel) is part of this larger four-year interdisciplinary research project on security and privacy in online social networks, involving different Belgian universities and one American university. More in particular the doctoral research has a twofold perspective. On the one hand it wants to understand the practices and needs of users with regard to privacy issues within social network sites, mainly based on the use of qualitative and ethnographic methods. On the other hand it will focus on the critical design variables and tools for social software. For the latter a translation needs to be made from the user research findings to possible guidelines and requirements for future media en technological solutions.

The Lund University Global Scholarship in Bachelor or Master Studies

The Lund University Global Scholarship programme is targeted at top academic students from countries outside the European Union/European Economic Area (and Switzerland).

Scholarships cover 25%, 50%, 75% or 100% of the tuition fees. The scholarship value is deducted from the tuition fees of the programme or free-standing course for which you are awarded a scholarship. Please note that the Lund University Global Scholarships do not cover living costs.

Who is eligible?

Students who have applied for Bachelor’s or Master’s level studies at Lund University for a minimum of one semester of study (the equivalent of 30 ECTS full-time study) and who are required to pay tuition fees.

This scholarship programme is not open for students from the following 12 countries: Bangladesh, Bolivia, Burkina Faso, Cambodia, Ethiopia, Kenya, Mali, Mozambique, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia. Students from these countries should apply for the Swedish Institute Study Scholarship.

Applications are open from 1 December 2010 to 17 January 2011.

To apply for a Lund University Global Scholarship, you must first apply for the programme(s) or free-standing course(s) you wish to study at Lund University using the online, national application website, studera.nu.
